Ozil rejects arsenal's extention
Mesut Özil rejects Arsenal’s contract extension, Barcelona make contact [Marca]
Spain’s top sport dailies drop a bombshell for Arsenal fans this morning, claiming that Mesut Ozil has rejected Arsenal’s contract extension offer.
Both Sport and Marca claim that the German World Cup winner has rejected the offer to extend beyond 2018, when his current deal finishes.
The reason? Ozil feels that Arsenal haven’t made the development or progress he’d hoped for upon joining in the summer of 2013, and remain stuck in Europe’s 2nd tier, behind giants Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.
With that in mind, Ozil is now seriously contemplating leaving Arsenal for a more ambitious club, and according to Marca, he has a suitor in Barcelona.
The Madrid daily claim that Barcelona have already made contact with the playmaker upon hearing of his contract rebuttal, and are interested in signing him, despite their current surfeit of attacking midfielders.
Given how pivotal he has become to Arsenal’s play, losing Ozil would be a real disaster for Arsenal.
