Suarez loses appeal against biting ban

Uruguay forward Luis Suarez, banned from all soccer activity for four months and nine competitive internationals for biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini during a World Cup match, has lost his appeal, Fifa said on Thursday. Fifa’s appeals committee rejected the appeal filed by the Uruguayan Football Association (AUF), although it can still take the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), a Fifa spokeswoman said. The controversial Liverpool striker sank his teeth into Chiellini’s shoulder during Uruguay’s 1-0 win over the Italians on June 24. The win sent Uruguay through to the last 16 where, without the banned Suarez, they lost 2-0 to Colombia. Suarez initially denied biting Chiellini but apologisied nearly a week later. “The truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me,” Suarez said in a statement on Twitter. Okorocha’s wife hand over 2- bedroom bungalow to indigent widow

Mrs  Nkechi Okorocha, the wife of the Imo Governor, on Thursday handed over a two-bedroom bungalow to Mrs Susan Obasi, an indigent widow from Umuebi Amuzu in Aboh Mbaise local government area of the state. The bungalow was constructed as part of the third phase of Okorocha’s pet project known as ”She Needs a Roof Project (SNARP)”, designed to provide homes for indigent widows in the state. Speaking at the handing over ceremony, Okorocha said the project was designed with the welfare of the poor in mind. She reiterated the commitment of the state government to improve the lot of the masses in the state. LASU: Lecturers, management differ over resumption

Striking lecturers and authorities of Lagos State University have differed over the commencement of academic activities in the university. While the university management through its Public Relations Officer, Kayode   Sutton said issues that resulted to strike in the school have been resolved, the lecturers insisted that the industrial action continues. Lecturers of the school under the aegis of Academic Staff of University Union had embarked on strike in May over fee hike among other issues in the institution. Sutton in a statement said, “The LASU Authority and the institution’s chapter of ASUU have signed an agreement that would signal the end of the strike action embarked upon by the latter in May, 2014. “In an exhaustive meeting which ran into the late hours on  Tuesday, July 8, the two parties reached a truce and put pen on paper on some issues, which led to the strike action that partially grounded academic activities in the Institution for several weeks. ...
