Lawsuit demands US remove 'In God We Trust' from money

Image
By:  FOX N A new lawsuit filed on behalf of several Atheist plaintiffs argues the phrase "In God We Trust" on U.S. money is unconstitutional, and calls for the government to get rid of it. Sacramento attorney Michael Newdow filed the lawsuit Monday in Akron, Ohio. He'd unsuccessfully sued the government at least twice challenging the use of the phrase "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Throughout much of his lawsuit, the word appears as "G-d." Newdow claims "In God We Trust" violates the separation of church and state. One plaintiff says his Atheism is "substantially burdened because he is forced to bear on his person a religious statement that causes him to sense his government legitimizing, promoting and reinforcing negative and injurious attitudes not only against Atheists in general, but against him personally."

U.N. officials say the crisis has brought the poor nation to the brink of a new civil war, after it emerged from a 12-year, ethnically fuelled conflict just a decade ago. As well as sentencing former Defence Minister Cyrille Ndayirukiye and three other generals, the court jailed nine others in the group to 30 years in jail and eight more to five years, state radio rep...

Klopp 'continues to insist' Liverpool buy his preferred midfielder

Image
Juventus’ hunt for a new midfielder is still underway, and the list of names linked to the Italian club by Tuttosport continues to grow exponentially. A couple of players, however, seem to be a recurring subject for the Turin based newspaper, and those are Oscar and Ilkay Gundogan. The latter of the two, who has been an alleged target for quite some time now, signed a two year extension with Dortmund last summer, but is far from being ultra loyal to the German club. Admitting he will one day move on from der BVB, Gundogan has been linked with a move to the Premier League multiple times now, and Tuttosport seem to think Juventus will have to battle with Liverpool for his signing. This comes as no surprise, mostly because they’ve done this before, and especially due to the fact that his former manager is now in charge at the Merseyside club. The Italian newspaper say Jürgen Klopp ‘continues to insist’ on targeting the German midfielder, which isn’t the best of signs for ...

UPDATE 2-Dead Sierra Leone patient tests positive for Ebola

Fri Jan  FREETOWN  Jan 15 (Reuters) - A body has tested positive for Ebola in Sierra Leone, a spokesman for the Health Ministry said, just hours after the World Health Organization said transmission of the virus in West Africa had ended. Two swab tests carried out on the deceased person by British health organisation Public Health England came back positive in the Tonkolili district east of the capital Freetown, the spokesman said late on Thursday. Neither the gender nor the age of the deceased person was released. It was not clear how many people the patient had been in contact with before the virus was detected. The tests reinforce concerns about flare-ups of the virus that has killed more than 11,300 people since 2013 in the world's deadliest outbreak of Ebola. Almost all the victims were in Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia, but all three countries had been declared free of the virus: Sierra Leone on Nov. 7, Guinea late last year, and Liberia on Thursday.
