ACTOR GETS SCENE WRONG AND NOW IN COMA
Actor in coma after hanging scene goes wrong
An actor is in a coma after a hanging scene went wrong in front of a live audience.
Raphael Schumacher, 27, was performing in a theatre production in the Italian city of Pisa when the rope tightened around his neck.
Schumacher was reportedly wearing a mask for the scene so it was not immediately clear that he was being strangled.
But a member of the audience - believed to be a medical graduate - realised something was wrong when the actor started to tremble and rushed to his aid.
"The noose should have been fake and a harness should have caught him if he fell - I cannot explain how an incident like this happened," one of Mr Schumacher's colleagues is quoted as saying.
Police have interviewed the cast and members of the audience as part of their investigation into the incident.
Officers are looking into claims that the box on which he was supposed to stand while wearing the noose had been moved.
Investigators are also said to be considering whether Mr Schumacher deliberately tried to take his own life - a theory dismissed by the actor's mother.
